Patient/ Family Volunteers:

As vital members of the Mission Hospice team, Patient Visitor Volunteers provide companionship, support and assistance to patients residing at home, in assisted living facilities, and in nursing homes or board & care facilities. This may include talking, listening, reading, taking walks, writing letters for them to their loved ones, or just sitting quietly being the gift of presence to comfort them.


Pet Therapy Volunteers:

Volunteers who have pets that are specially trained and certified as Pet Therapy animals visit patients in at home, in residential care facilities (RCFEs), and in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) where they allow pets in their building. Volunteers and their pets provide alternative ways for the patient to express feelings and emotions. Patient Visit Volunteer training is required.


Office Services Volunteers:

Providing administrative and clerical supportive services for departments and teams throughout the organization, Office Volunteers assist staff by preparing information, updating files, gathering supplies for patients, and assisting with compliance audits. Office Volunteers also assist with light clerical work, assist in creating mailings, helping with printing and duplication, filing records, and making phone calls. One on one training is offered by our trained staff in furthering the growth of our volunteers.


Bereavement Volunteers:

Provide emotional support to patients and their families as they manage the difficult situation that faces them. One of the most important aspects offered by bereavement volunteers is listening as many of our patients just want to converse with someone or have someone listen to their stories. Bereavement volunteers also assist the families with providing resources to help with their grieving whether it’s reading material or assisting in finding a support group. Bereavement volunteers can meet with the families in a comfortable setting and discussed their grief in a productive manner.


Community Service/ Speakers Bureau Volunteers:

Community Service/ Speakers Bureau Volunteers are volunteers that present themselves as representatives of the Mission Hospice organization by speaking on behalf of Mission Hospice on the hospice ideas and philosophies in their communities. Community Speaking volunteers involve speaking in front of large amount of people at engagements, presentations, and social functions for the hospice. There will also be some planning and assisting involved in hosting engagements for Mission Hospice; also comfortability with planning, hosting and speaking in front of large engagements.
